Pennant Banner / Garland Tutorial

Here's how to make one of these fun and festive pennant banners or garlands. Anytime you have a party or a reason to celebrate, you'll have a fun decorative banner to pull out.

To make a medium-sized banner, you will need the following:

8 to 10 12x12 sheets of paper in coordinating patterns and colors
(You could make it with fabric too, but I've never done that)
Paper cutter
Ruler
Pencil
Glue Gun
Thin ribbon

Start with a 12x12 sheet of paper and fold in half.

On the open edge of your paper, make a small mark with your pencil at the 3 inch and 9 inch marks (or 3 inches from each edge).

On the folded edge of your paper, make a small mark with your pencil at the 6 inch mark (or the very center).

Easy, right? This is where it gets tricky.

With your paper cutter, take your paper with the folded edge along the bottom and line up the bottom folded corner with the 9 inch mark along your cutting line and cut!

The triangle you will have is an extra that you may choose to add into your banner or not.

Next, line up the 9 inch mark with the 6 inch mark and cut.

Next, line up the 6 inch mark with the 3 inch mark and cut.

Next, line up the 3 inch mark with the bottom folded corner and cut.

You will have 3 large triangles (2 of them connected and one not) and the two extras that you can eliminate or add in between larger triangles. It is cute either way.

Next, decide the order in which you want to arrange the different colors and patterns of your paper. Then you will use your glue gun to glue the triangles (especially those that aren't connected) onto the ribbon. The triangles shouldn't necessarily "slide" along the ribbon but stay in place. I line the triangles fairly close together. You can add small ones every couple of large ones or not.
