MILLIE IS 3 MONTHS OLD

Just three months ago this little beauty came into our lives and stole our hearts.

Last month she got to meet her Uncle Matt for the first time just before he passed away. Even though she won't remember him, I'm so glad they got to meet.  We want to strive to keep his memory alive for Macy and Millie to remember him. 

Millie is becoming so alert and is such a sweet baby.  She is more and more predictable, which is nice.  For some reason, she LOVES to be laid on her changing table.  She kicks, and sings, and coos when I lay her there almost without fail.  It is the cutest thing ever!

In the night she wakes at 3 and then again at 5 or 6.  She is very gassy and burpy.  She still loves to be held.  She is holding her head up so good, almost ready for the bumbo!  We love her sweet little presence in our home.  We're just starting to see her personality come out and we love it.  It seems lately she is very happy when someone is talking to her and completely distraught if we walk away - social butterfly?

Cold winter + lots of bugs going around + tiny baby + paranoid mom = Millie rarely gets to leave the house!  Spring can't get here soon enough.

MATTHEW WAYNE FUNDERBURK

Matthew Wayne Funderburk, October 1, 1979 - December 27, 2012

Wow, I still can’t even believe that Andy’s brother Matt passed away just after Christmas.  It is creepy how death can sneak up on you. I have been dreading this post.  You just want life to go back to normal.  Normal is a place you want to be.  But the truth is that there is a void there and that's not normal.  This has been so hard on us and although we have peace knowing that Matt is in a safe place, we continue to have moments of grief when we realize that Matt won’t experience things with us.  Andy will go to call him to tell him some exciting news and then be paralyzed with the reality that he's not there. 

Matt and Andy had a special friendship and a great brotherhood. Matt loved Andy so much and looked up to him.  Matt and Macy also had a special little bond that was so natural. So many people were so drawn to Matt. He was such a one-of-a-kind people person. Matt was so complimentary to others and made you feel so alive when you were around him.  Our friends who would meet him just once for a few moments have lasting memories of him.  He made a powerful impression on people.  He was such a fun and lively spirit.

As hard as this has been, one of the things we are grateful for is that we were able to spend time with Matt before he was taken from us so suddenly.  Andy's family was in Cedar City visiting for Christmas and Millie's blessing.  Having all of the Funderburks together doesn't happen often.  Andy and Matt were able to spend some time in Andy's shop working on a motorcycle Matt was really excited about.  We're just glad that we had that time with Matt and that we were together as family to be there for each other through this.

We love him.  We will miss him so much and don't look forward to all the times and events in the future when we wish he was with us.  But we are glad there are so many good times to remember and cherish.  Matt was such an example of living in the moment and I pray that I can learn from that and enjoy the little moments more.  

MACY IS 2 AND A HALF

Macy is 2 and a half!

Terrible 2's are setting in.  Help.  I think it has a lot to do with a new little sister in the house and a little thing called jealousy.  :(

She is speaking in full, clear sentences.

She is loving to dress up like a princess - tutu, tiara, heels, purse, the whole nine yards.

She loves to be right. Uh oh.  She hates to be wrong.

She is very patient, persistent and good with her hands - she got both of those traits from her dad.

When I tell her "You are so smart" she sometimes says "I are!"  :)  Confident little lady!

"I wan' do it by myself!"  She's typically whining or mad and saying it through her nose when she says this because I have just done something for her.  So, I'm learning to let her do things by herself.  But occasionally, I get a "Mom, just do it.  Mom, just do it!"

I love it when she says "Mamma, are you married to daddy?"  "In the temple?"

BLESSING

 

Despite losing Andy’s brother, Matt, we still blessed Millie on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at 9 AM in the Rock Church.  Millie was blessed by her father, Andy Funderburk.  Also in the circle were: Gary Funderburk, Doug Bingham, Kevin Yeager, Nate Parry, Colby Bingham, Roy Smith, Jeremy Marshall, Geoffrey Chesnut, and Kyle Ballard.  It was a special and emotional blessing.  Andy blessed Millie that she would be smart and healthy and come to know Christ and follow him.  It was such a special day to have close friends, all of my family (except Breck) and all of Andy’s family there.  Afterward, we had a brunch at our home.  It was tight but it was so nice to be together, surrounded by friends and family.

CHRISTMAS

Merry Christmas!

We got to spend Christmas at our home this year!  That was a first for us and we were so excited to be able to have Santa come to OUR house.  We decided to start some of our own traditions and food is always the first thing on my mind!  On Christmas Eve, we had Chicken Tortilla Soup, chips and queso, and made New York Times Chocolate Chip cookies for Santa.

Matt and Andy and Gary spent a lot of time at Andy’s shop working on Matt’s motorcycle and a pot rack for Gary and Brenda’s house. Macy and Millie got to open Christmas Eve presents, matching Christmas pajamas of course.

Christmas morning was fun.  We were able to hold Macy off until about 8 AM.  She looked in her bedroom first and saw that Santa had brought her a big girl bed!  A cute twin bed and frame were in the place of her crib-converted-toddler bed.  She was excited about the bed and to this day talks about her bed as something that “Santa gave me”.  She'll say to me when we are in her room "Is this my room? That Santa gave me?"

The morning was enjoyable and lazy.  We had eggs in a basket and bacon for breakfast.  Andy’s family, who were staying in a condo nearby, came over.  We made a prime rib for dinner.  That was another first for us and it turned out delicious!  We also had English Trifle, a Bingham family tradition, that has tapioca in it which is a Funderburk family tradition.  Food, food, food.  Yum, yum, yum.  Now, on to the New Year's diet resolution.
